There are a lot of folks that “have a zeal for God, but not
according
to knowledge” (Rom. 10:2). Having fervent interest
or ardor
for religion is not enough. We must have the right kind of
zeal. So we take a look for the right kind of zeal:
Is
Not According To Tradition.
At one time, before obeying the Gospel, the Apostle Paul was zealous
according to tradition. Paul penned, “I advanced in
Judaism
beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more
exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers” (Gal.
1:14). The traditions of men are a false standard of
authority
and do not bring about the right kind of zeal for the Lord.
Is
According To Knowledge.
In the first century Paul wrote of those who had “a zeal for
God,
but not according to knowledge” (Rom. 10:2). Such
folks had
the right object of worship, God (Mt. 4:10), but did not really know
God. Do you have a zeal for God, and is it based upon the
word of
God?
Is
Of Good Works. A
reading of Titus 2:14 reveals Christ, “gave Himself for us,
that
He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His
own special people, zealous for good works.” The
Psalmist
penned, “Good and upright is the LORD” (Ps.
25:8). To
do good works is to obey the commandments of the Lord!
Let us make sure we
have the right
kind of zeal and share our fervent interest in the Lord with others.
