Two Appointments All Will Keep
|
Have you ever canceled
an appointment? There are two appointments all men will keep,
death and judgment. A reading of Hebrews 9:27 reveals, “it
is appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment.” This article takes a look at these two
appointments.
An Appointment With Death.
Death is something that is difficult to reconcile with because those of
us who are living have not experienced it and those who have died are
unable to come back and tell us about it. The Hebrew writer said,
“it is appointed for men to die once…” (Heb.
9:27). Once we die, there is no coming back to this present
world. The preacher declared, “Then the dust will return to
the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave
it” (Eccl. 12:7). This world is not our home, we are just
“sojourners and pilgrims” (1 Peter 2:11) on the
earth. The appointment with death is one that all will keep.
An Appointment With
Judgment.
The Apostle Paul penned, “For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in
the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2
Cor. 5:10). In judgment “God will judge the secrets of men
by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel” (Rom. 2:16). You
will not be able to call and cancel this appointment. The Hebrew
writer stated that after our appointment with death we have an
appointment with judgment.
